Possible Paths creates meaningful experiences for young people while strengthening connections within communities. Its impact is seen in how participants grow in confidence and in how audiences respond to the work.
“It was a positive experience, getting out of my comfort zone. The studio session gives you
confidence and helps your social skills because you have to approach people you don’t know,
ask them questions, and take the initiative.”
Young people take part in real conversations, approach people they don’t know, and contribute to a public-facing project. For many, it is the first time their work has been exhibited, creating a strong sense of pride and achievement.
“Seeing people from this school do so well in their lives, it makes you think that
you are able to do anything that you want to do.”
Through meeting and documenting real individuals, participants begin to see their community differently                         and recognise a wider range of possibilities.
“Our community is viewed very negatively,
but this helped me see it from a different perspective.”
The project also increases engagement with arts and cultural spaces, often introducing young people                                    to exhibitions for the first time.
“The pupils received a real-world opportunity, and it was inspiring for them
to learn from people from their own local area.”
The Exhibitions create shared experiences that bring people together and encourage conversation across generations. The response to the Levenmouth exhibition in Methil Heritage Centre was particularly strong, with 92% of visitors attending specifically to see Possible Paths. The exhibition was extended due to demand and became the best-attended event at the venue since reopening.
“Powerful… A great way to inspire the next generation.”
Participants develop a strong sense of ownership in the work they create and share.
“It’s such a rewarding experience having your photography in an exhibition…
 it makes it more exciting.”
