The first ‘Possible Paths’ exhibition, on now, showcases Levenmouth locals who have turned their passions into inspiring careers, whether close to home or far away. Each portrait depicts a former pupil of Levenmouth Academy, Buckhaven or Kirkland High School.
Professional photographer and teacher Cate Gillon ran photography workshops with the pupils at Levenmouth Academy while working on her portraits for the project. The Academy's young people researched the jobs of former pupils around them. They photographed alumni both on location and in school with a studio backdrop. In their own time, they captured streetscapes from their hometowns. The young photographers' images are hung alongside the professional portraits to create a collaborative exhibition worth visiting.
The project 'Possible Paths' explores themes of identity, self-esteem, place and employment through photographic portraits of relatable role models and their interviews. The project aims to broaden young people’s perceptions of the working world and empower them to find and follow their interests.
Cate Gillon is a photographer who grew up in Kennoway, Fife. She has photographed people from David Attenborough to Barack Obama. Her passion for education and equal opportunity inspired the inclusive, community-participation project, ‘Possible Paths’.
